A NATIONAL education support service is on the lookout for volunteers to assist at two local Bellarine school canteens.

EdConnect Australia has put a callout out to potential volunteers who are able to help at Bellarine Secondary College’s two Bellarine canteens.

Bellarine Secondary College principal Wayne Johannesen said the need for volunteers was crucial following the start of Term 1.

“We have two campuses at Bellarine Secondary College, one in Drysdale and one in Ocean Grove, both campuses would benefit from additional adult support in the canteen.

“EdConnect volunteers are always reliable and consistent, which is important for us as a school.”

EdConnect local liaison supports students at educational risk across Victoria through its well-established school volunteer program, which Bellarine Secondary College is a partner of.

The service works with more than 240 schools nationally, prioritising partnerships with schools in lower socio-economic areas with the highest need.

Local EdConnect liaison officer Rhonda Velkovski said schools knew their students best and could clearly identify where support was needed for students.

“Schools are very busy places, are often under-resourced, and have many competing demands. Most rely heavily on the support from their local communities.

“Volunteers assist either through one-on-one mentoring, in various classroom learning support roles or help around the school which may include school canteen, kitchen garden projects, library, administration, school gardens, and much more.

“Schools need committed people who can offer one or two days a week to help with prepping food and serving students during recess and lunch times in the school canteen. If this sounds like you, please contact EdConnect today.”

All applicants require a Working with Children Check and must provide two character referees. Compulsory training is provided.
