Great Rail Run called off

A COMMUNITY run which would see participants race the steam train from Queenscliff to Drysdale has been cancelled for this year

The Great Rail Run has been called off due to lower-than-expected registrations and an increase in cost for an already expensive event.

An email sent out earlier this month highlighted that even with a late rush of entries, event organisers would still lose a significant amount of money if they held the race.

“We understand that this will be disappointing for many and please know that we have explored all available options,” the email stated.

The run, organised by PB Events, was to include a 21.1km, 17km, 10km and a three leg 17km relay event.

All registered participants will receive a full refund for the May 4 event.

Although the Great Rail Run has been called off, PB Events are still planning all future events as normal.
