Work progresses on Armstrong Creek Pavilion

AN IMPORTANT piece of sporting infrastructure in Armstrong Creek is reportedly on time and on budget.

Once construction is complete, the Armstrong Creek Pavilion in the Warralily estate will be the first public sporting facility to be made available in the growth area and provide spaces to play Australian rules football, cricket, netball and soccer.

The pavilion, located between two sports fields, will include a social room with a kitchen, change rooms, umpires rooms, meeting spaces and administration facilities.

The project will also create a car park to the north (off Central Boulevard) and two netball courts on the
south side.

The pavilion is expected to be completed in late October, with work on the grounds to be completed by the developer and available for community use in April 2019.

The City of Greater Geelong is contributing $3.18 million to this facility, and the state government is contributing $500,000.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney and City of Greater Geelong councillor Pat Murnane visited the site last week to inspect progress, along with Labor candidate for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman.

“As our city grows, it is critical that we build community infrastructure that brings people together and enhances individual and community wellbeing,” Ms Tierney said.

“The Armstrong Creek Sports Pavilion will provide a much-needed sporting and community facility for existing and future residents.

“As one of the state’s prime growth areas, the Victorian government is committed to seeing the new community of Armstrong Creek thrive.”

Cr Murnane said the council was pleased that the Armstrong Creek community would soon have access to an excellent sporting precinct.

“We recognise the importance of investing in this rapidly growing area of our municipality, and look forward to the opening of both the Armstrong Creek Pavilion and the $17.24 million Armstrong Creek East Children’s and Community Centre, which is on track to be completed next year.”
