Cricket round-up: Fallon’s eight-for gives Barwon Heads upper hand

December 5, 2019 BY

Modewarre and Torquay are now equal on points in the GCA.

ROUND 7 of the BCPA was marked by a couple of sensational individual bowling performances.

Having taken 6/38 against Queenscliff last week, Barwon Heads Michael Fallon claimed the best bowling figures for the BCPA season so far, with 8/60 against Ocean Grove.

Fallon said he was pleased to be getting results for his efforts.

“I was feeling good at the start of the day, but didn’t get any wickets early. But then eventually it just clicked and ended up being a really good day.

“I feel I’ve been bowling well all year really, but now I’m just reaping the rewards for the
hard work.”

Ocean Grove managed to make 180, keeping themselves in the match despite Barwon Heads holding the advantage.

Barwon Heads are in fourth place but will pass second-placed Ocean Grove should they defeat their rivals from across the bridge. Anglesea’s Dale Kerr was also in fine form with the ball. His 7/15 saw Portarlington routed for 48. This marks the third time this season

Kerr has taken six or more wickets in an innings.

Anglesea looked to seize their chance to win outright and claim the extra points. Yet Portarlington managed to regroup after their collapse and had Anglesea at 7/75 before their opposition declared. Portarlington finished the day at 2/43.

Collendina’s Craig Goodger was the third bowler to claim a five-wicket haul. He took 6/85 against Barrabool, despite them still posting an imposing score of 326. Barrabool’s batting efforts were once again led by Kane Pickering, who followed his double-century in the previous round with 87.

Elsewhere Queenscliff are in a strong position having bowled Jan Juc out for 140, before finishing their day at 1/47. Queenscliff will go past fifth-placed Jan Juc if they secure the win next week.

As the one-dayers returned in GCA Division 2, so did Torquay’s form. Damian O’Brien’s 5/17 helped them bowl Manifold Heights out for just 101, giving Torquay a 112 run win.

Torquay are now equal on points with Modewarre, who lost to Highton on the weekend. The two sides were set to play each other in Round five, but rain denied the sides the chance to compete.

The GCA’s Division 1 sides began a new round of two-day matches.

Leopold did not manage to continue their fine batting form from last week. They were bowled out for 95 by South Barwon, who then passed their total before the end of play.
