League Manager – the future of recording

TENNIS Geelong has moved a step closer to the changeover of results recording as the midweek competition embraces the League Manager system.

The program is supported by Tennis Australia for clubs and associations to use in conjunction with Match Centre, the player interface, which updates in real time and can be viewed by anyone with a “tennis account”.

This brings results publication into the modern era. The previous system, which ran on DOS, was written in the 1980s, served the purpose very well in its day, but was very reliant on particular individuals for set-up and entry.

With midweek now on board, for this upcoming season, all Tennis Geelong competitions will run exclusively through League Manager, with clubs expected to enter and confirm their own results. This is currently happening in the winter competition, senior and junior.

League Manager/Match Centre is designed specifically for tennis and is web-based, with the premise being that it will allow for better access and more engagement for players, whilst at the same time reducing the workload on the volunteer committees that oversee the sport.

A link to the current season can be accessed from our website tennisgeelonginc.com.au on the Match Centre tab. For historical results or more in-depth analysis, log into Match Centre at leagues.tennis.com.au.

For any questions relating to any of the above, including (the very simple) “how to create a tennis account”, visit our FAQ tab under Match Centre on our website.

The next issue of Tennis In Geelong will feature another initiative of Tennis Geelong – the trialling of an interclub night tennis competition, proposed to start in October. There will also be an obituary for Geelong Lawn’s legendary Graeme Williams, who sadly passed away in April.
