Local surf prodigies to compete in national titles

AUSTRALIA’S best junior surfers are competing at the Surf Dive N Ski (SDS) Australian Junior Surfing Titles, with surfers from the Surf Coast and Bellarine well represented.

The seven-day contest ranges from Under 14 through to Under 19, with surfers competing for their states.

Among the 28 surfers picked to represent Victoria were Angela Ball and Emily McGettigan from Torquay, Xavier Huxtable, Ethan Huxtable, Cole Fox, Spencer Kay, Indi White, Angelique Kefalas, Bella Wilson, Patrick Hughes, Jazz Wylie, Mia Huppatz, Isla Huppatz and Willis Droomer from Jan Juc, Bodhie Williams and Lucy Naylor from Pt. Lonsdale, and Charlie Farrer, Zeph Lamperd, Charlie Mahoney, Ellie Harrison, Jack Bassett and Isaiah Norling from Barwon Heads.

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said it would be a greater experience for the talented youngsters.

“Margaret River is one of the most iconic and amazing places for a surfer.

“For the SDS Australian Junior Surfing Titles to get the chance to surf there is a great experience for our junior competitors.”

Robertson also said that the forecasted conditions would give them a great chance to show their skills.

Former winners of the event include Stephanie Gilmore, Chelsea Hedges, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Mark Richards, Tom Carroll and Damian Hardman.
