Portarlington Golf Club – January 25, 2018

January 29, 2018 BY

EACH year at about this time, we have a contingent of men and women from our club who enter into the Golf Victoria Heart Open. To be eligible, players who have an official Golf Australia handicap must have undergone a heart procedure (open heart, bypass, stents, etc.) This year’s event will be held at the magnificent Woodlands Golf course on Tuesday March 13, with 100 places available, and is all about celebrating life through golf as a competition. Our club has enjoyed enormous success in this event over the past three years with Ron Williams leading the men last year, and Gordon Mainsbridge claiming victory in both of the two previous years. For entry forms and further details, check out the Golf Victoria website.

Tuesday January 16, Men’s and Ladies’ Stableford
Another 169 men were out and about for this mid January comp, and Andrew Barti enjoyed a cracker of a round with 43 points to take the day’s honours and D Grade by a point from Ian Davis. Matt Gordon won A Grade with 41 from John Hill’s 38, Col Bean continued his hot streak to head the B Graders with 40 by a point from Jerry Raveane, and a 39 by Paul Brewin was enough to top the C Graders on a countback from Henry Wasiak. The NTPs were collected by Jim Fisher, Russell Pavletich and Ritchie Howells, and the ProPin by Nick Unsworth.

Wednesday January 17, Ladies’ Stableford
A field of 63 ladies got in before the blistering heat arrived, and Geraldine Collison topped all-comers with a handy 43 points to get the day’s trophy and C Grade from Jocie Mather’s 34. Jill Peppard put in a good one to score 41 to head A Grade from a 38 by Donna Utt, and Chris Cunningham’s 37 topped the B Graders on a countback from Diane Roede.
