SURF Coast Suns Football Netball Club recently announced they will be expanding their football program to include an Under 15 side in 2020.

The club had a good level of participation in their Under 13 team this year. Having several of their players now in the Under 15 age bracket, the club is confident they will garner enough interest to field a new side.

Suns president Michael Thomas said the club is not only hoping to provide chances for the players already at the club, but also for those presently outside of it.

“I know that in other Under 15 teams last season there were too many players per team. There were a lot of kids that missed out on a game each week and when it came to finals they missed out on the opportunity to play finals.

“We’re hoping by creating and launching our Under 15 team that it will give everyone the opportunity to play.”

The side will be coached by Justin Kearney and Dean Charman, who both have plenty of experience in the Bellarine Football League and Geelong Football League.

Charman said having been involved with the Under 13 side last year, accepting the role was an easy decision.

“It’s just a fantastic junior club with some great initiatives and a great group of volunteers. When they asked me to work with Justin, it took me about two seconds to say ‘yes’.”
