TORQUAY won the A Grade preliminary final on the weekend at Spring Creek Reserve to earn a place in next Saturday’s netball grand final.

They defeated Modewarre 46-35 after an excellent second quarter gave them a nine goal lead at half-time.

Torquay’s coach Courtney Cuolahan said she was delighted with her team’s performance.

“We put out there the brand of netball we have been known for all year, it was a quality game from all of our players.

“We’ll be looking to bring much the same on Saturday, it’ll be a fierce contest between us and Ammos.”

Torquay finished top of the league, just two points above their grand final opposition Geelong Amateur.

Torquay lost to Geelong Amateur in the semi-finals. That loss was Torquay’s first since the opening game of the season, a one-goal defeat also to Geelong Amateur.

Geelong Amateur have similarly only lost twice in the season. Their first was the other game played between them and Torquay, which Torquay won 45-33, and the second a one-goal loss to Ocean Grove.

Yet the last time Geelong Amateur and Torquay played each other in a grand final was in 2016, where Torquay won by a single goal.

The sides will meet in the grand final again at 3pm this Saturday.

Torquay also played in the preliminary finals in the B Grade, but were beaten by Barwon Heads 34-29.

Barwon Heads will play Geelong Amateur in the B grade final before the A Grade game at 1.30pm.

In C Grade, Geelong Amateur narrowly missed out on another grand final, as Drysdale took a 35-34 win to set up a grand final with Ocean Grove.

But in D Grade Geelong Amateur overcame Torquay quite comfortably. Their 25-16 means they will also play in the grand final against Ocean Grove.

Ocean Grove will also play in the E Grade grand final, as they defeated Torquay 24-18 to set up a meeting with Barwon Heads.

All matches will played at Spring Creek Reserve in Torquay.
