THE Torquay Tigers are building their first Senior Women’s Team and looking to enter into the AFL Barwon Senior Women’s Competition in 2019.

They are looking for players and volunteers to join in women’s community sport and the next generation to live a healthy and positive lifestyle.

It takes more to build a team than just players, so they are looking for anyone who is willing to volunteer some time, from Sports Trainers, running water, sponsorships, scoring or even just coming to the game to support.

“It’s about setting an example, so the younger generation of girls know that playing sport can be a way of life at any age. It’s about being strong, healthy role models to younger generation within the community,” leadership team player Lahnee Firth said.

“We are currently holding casual kick to kick sessions once a week so anyone over 18 can come down to meet new people and try out the sport.

“So far we have seen a mixed bunch of women come along, from women who have played professional AFLW to someone who has never kicked a football before.”

Lahnee said it was about getting a good mix of women who aim to have fun, learn and challenge themselves to be the best possible player and person they can be.

Preseason will start on Tuesday November 20 under newly appointed coach Tim Humphries.

Training for the next two weeks is on Tuesday nights (October 16 and 23), 6.30pm at Polwarth Oval, behind the Shire Offices.
