Club honour a collective salute

A team effort from the committee, volunteers, staff and management team at Bendigo District RSL has seen the club named Community Clubs Victoria (CCV) Community Club of the Year for 2025–26.

The award was presented at the CCV 2026 Gala Dinner and Awards night held at the Park Hyatt Melbourne earlier this month.

Bendigo District RSL president Glenn Ludeman said the award was an honour.

“The award reflects the hard work by staff and volunteers across the whole organisation,” he said.

“The Bendigo RSL is important to the community but first and foremost, we look after our veterans.

“We are also pleased we have been able to support other organisations.

“The award recognises the efforts across our entire operation, including welfare, support in the community, and our hospitality team.

“More broadly, the awards reflect the good work done by so many clubs across the state.”

General manager Martin Beekes said he was thrilled to have the club recognised for its hard work for veterans and the wider area.

“It is a team award and none of it would be possible without the committee, the servicemen and staff,” he said.

“We are proud of the work we do supporting veterans and their families, preserving our military heritage, and strengthening connections throughout the Bendigo community by commemorating Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and other conflicts.

“This award reinforces the importance of community clubs as organisations that support community groups, sporting clubs and make a real difference in people’s lives.

“Most importantly, we sincerely thank our members, veterans and guests who choose to visit and support the Bendigo District RSL each day.

“Your support enables us to continue our mission of service to veterans and the wider community, and we share this recognition with all of you.

“We are thrilled to receive this award and look forward to continuing to serve our community with pride, respect and dedication.”

More than 400 guests, including club leaders, volunteers, industry partners and MPs attended the gala.

The event recognises exceptional achievements by local clubs in their cities and towns.

This year, CCV received a record 120 nominations across 18 categories, well above last year’s record of 86 nominations.
