LAUNCHED by the Pyrenees Shire to help boost the region’s visitor economy, a photo competition for both locals and tourists has just kicked off.

After a tough year in 2020 for hospitality, tourism and accommodation industries, the Pyrenees’ new Visiting Friends and Family Campaign hopes to convince travellers to plan a trip and spend some money within the region.

“We are inviting local residents to become regional ambassadors,” mayor Damian Ferrari said.

“Post a photo on Facebook or Instagram of your favourite place in the Pyrenees where you like to spend time with family and friends using the hashtag, #seeyouinthepyrenees.”

Running for five, the campaign aims to provide Pyrenees residents the opportunity to show off the region to their family, friends and to visitors to boost the areas tourism economy post COVID.

Once the initiative formally wraps up, the applications will be short listed by a panel and the top 10 photos will go to a public vote found on the Visit Pyrenees Facebook Page.

The winner of this vote is set to receive a two-night stay at Faraday on Avoca for up to six people valued at $800, suitable for a large family or a group of friends.

“2020 was a difficult year, not knowing how long it would be before we could see our loved ones again,” Cr Ferrari said.

“This competition will encourage our local residents to reconnect with loved ones while showing off our beautiful region.”
