MARONG Football Netball Club are recipients of a grant that will help them rebuild after their equipment was lost last year to flooding.

The club is one of 10 community netball clubs to receive $8000 as part of the Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh grant program

Netball operations manager Brittany Hercus said the club was excited to receive the money and are grateful to Woolworths and the NetSetGo family for the offer.

“We’ve had our ups and downs having lost a lot of our equipment,” she said. “Funds are tight in community clubs so it was really exciting to get this offer.”

Ms Hercus said the grant would be used to replace equipment that was lost in the October 2022 floods.

“Our netball storage shed is right next to the Bullock Creek which came to waist high with water.

“We were able to salvage some of the balls and couple of small things, but the bibs and bean bags and hoops and even the rings were damaged during the floods,” she said.

The club was able to manage with what was left this season and are now looking forward to rebuilding and getting some new equipment.

There are also some plans to grow the existing netball program by using some of the grant money to train new coaches.

“We’ve got lots of local kids and the school’s just growing every year, so we want to give those kids an opportunity to be able to be active and play,” said Ms Hercus.
