MAFS ‘couples retreat’ hits the market
A HERITAGE-listed Bangalow home that featured in the reality TV series Married at First Sight has been listed for sale for $15 million.
Over the years, Hinterland House has been used for fashion shoots, rented out to holidaymakers, and has served as a high-end wedding venue.
Real estate agent Kim Jones, who is the daughter of Sydney real estate identity Di Jones, said the early-1900s home was unique to the area.
“There’s nothing else like it that I’ve seen in the Northern Rivers that’s of that era and style,” she said.
“I love it because it’s the style of turn of the century homes I sold in Paddington and Woollahra in Sydney.
“You can feel the grandeur.
“The bricks were moulded in a cast, so it took four years to build.
“It’s at the top of a hill, so it has incredible views.”
Set on 7.6 hectares with a macadamia orchard, the property has a long, palm tree-lined driveway that leads to the Federation-style home, which has four bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, and heritage features such as chandeliers and stained glass windows.
Bookended by two-bedroom Queenslander-style cottages, it is capable of sleeping up to 16 people and also has a heated mineral pool.
Brisbane-based owner Mitch Carter, who bought the property in 2016, said he fell in love with it as soon as he saw it.
“Nothing’s built like that in the area these days,” he said.
“We have shared a lot of Christmases there and various birthdays with my extended family.”
Mr Carter said the home was popular with holidaymakers celebrating intergenerational family get-togethers.
“Being on MAFS was massive exposure for the property, and we have quite a good following on social media,” he said.
But he said the time has come to sell so he can focus on his Brisbane business and look for another project.
“I’ve taken it as far as I’m going to take it,” he said.
