Armstrong Creek set for new $5.3 million intersection

THE City has launched a $5.3 million project to build a signalised intersection at Baanip Boulevard and Boundary Road in Armstrong Creek West, enhancing transport links and pedestrian access.

Mayor Trent Sullivan expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its significance for Armstrong Creek West’s infrastructure.

“This project symbolises a major investment in the Armstrong Creek West precinct’s infrastructure, solidifying a crucial transportation link and elevating pedestrian connectivity to new heights,” he said.

The initiative is part of the Armstrong Creek West Precinct Structure Plan, aiming to connect communities and improve mobility.

This project includes extending Boundary Road (Mount Duneed) and constructing a three-legged signalised intersection at Baanip Boulevard.

This new intersection will become the second northern transport link for the Armstrong Creek West precinct and the Mount Duneed Villawood development.

Another key feature is the creation of pedestrian pathways linking the residential area to the existing shared path along Baanip Boulevard, leading directly to Waurn Ponds Station.

Construction is set to start in late February and is expected to finish by the end of 2024. Traffic on Baanip Boulevard will be maintained under varying conditions throughout the construction phase.

Councillor Ron Nelson said it was important that public infrastructure kept pace with the growing Armstrong Creek community.

“This project is all about making it easier for residents to move around and to access key facilities and services,” he said.

“By connecting the residential area to the shared path, people will be able to walk or ride to the Waurn Ponds Station.”

The City said in a statement that it acknowledged the impact of construction on locals and valued the community’s patience and cooperation during this period.
