THE City of Greater Geelong is encouraging local amateur and professional photographers to show their creativity by submitting an entry in the 2024 Geelong Calendar Photography Competition.

The annual competition, which opened last week, and will see people of all ages and backgrounds photograph what makes the Greater Geelong region unique and diverse through their own lens.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said that the Geelong Calendar Photography Competition helps to raise the profile of Geelong and the world class natural environment.

“The popular photography competition is all about celebrating the beauty and uniqueness of our region,” Mayor Sullivan said.

“Last year our competition attracted over 1,000 entries with the winning photo a stunning aerial photograph of Corio Bay by Highton resident Lasith Merinpanayagam.”

Councillor Melissa Cadwell, Creativity and Culture portfolio chair, said the annual calendar was a fantastic way of championing local photographers.

“Our annual calendar photography competition provides residents with an opportunity to celebrate and share our local landscapes, seascapes and urban places in a way that can only be truly appreciated visually,” Cr Cadwell said.

“We live in such a beautiful part of the world and our annual calendar photography competition is for residents with a passion for photography, to get out and about.

There are so many good submissions, it’s hard selecting the final 13, but thankfully the community helps us by voting for the best ones.”

Competition entries will close on August 11 and then the public will vote for the featured 13 calendar photos in September.

More than 135,000 of the calendars will be printed and posted to local households thereafter in November.
