Geelong forum tackles climate resilience

GEELONG Sustainability has teamed up with Common Ground Project to launch the Community Climate Resilience Forum, focusing on climate disaster preparedness in the Geelong region.

Set as a key event of the National Sustainable Living Festival, the forum will convene experts to explore topics such as community roles in disaster readiness and practical engagement methods.

Geelong Sustainability chief executive officer Dan Cowdell said the forum was more relevant now than ever before.

“Climate-related emergencies and the stress they impose on our community are on the rise.”

“It’s imperative that everyone feels empowered and prepared.”

The event will address will explore the different ways of navigating climate-related disasters, offering attendees guidance on building resilience.

The panel features Wayne Aylmer, CFA Surf Coast catchment commander; Amy Tacey, Food Hub co-ordinator; psychologist Libby Skeels; and project co-ordinator Karina Donkers, who will lead discussions aimed at bolstering community resilience in the face of climate threats.

The forum will also include networking opportunities and refreshments provided by Common Ground Project.

Part of the 25th anniversary of the National Sustainability Festival, the forum aims to accelerate sustainable living practices and confront global climate and biodiversity emergencies.

“Strength during these uncertain times comes from community readiness, awareness and action. Our aim is to support our community in building their resilience and preparedness in the event of a climate disaster,” Mr Cowdell said.

The Community Climate Resilience Forum will be held at the Common Ground Project, 675 Anglesea Road, Freshwater Creek on Thursday, February 22 from 5.30-7.30pm.. Tickets are $10.
