Interiors haven brought to life

February 19, 2022 BY

From the moment you step through the imposing double front doors it is clear the creative space inside Greenhouse Interiors is anything but conventional.

The brainchild of esteemed stylist and businesswoman Julia Green, the two-storey store in Geelong’s Ryrie Street has been intentionally designed much like the footprint of a home.

Every touch point is considered – and shoppable – from taps, tiles, paint and kitchen appliances through to renders, wallpapers, stone and flooring.

Beyond just being a beautiful and tactile experience, each room has a QR code so clients can be given direct access to suppliers and products.

Julia and her business partner/husband, Adam, have invested in state-of-the-art technology allowing people from across Australian and overseas to virtually walk through the space and go shopping.

Stepping inside the store, customers are met with a beautiful bathroom that leads into a bedroom. The bottom floor has a lounge with Oblica suspended fireplace, dining and purpose-built fully functional kitchen with Winning appliances.

Each month there is a solo exhibition on display downstairs whilst upstairs there is an art room to showcase the greater group’s body of work.

Julia explains they are thrilled to fill “a total gap in the market” for the region.

“We decided on Geelong because we live at the back of Thirteenth Beach in Barwon Heads, and have raised our family here for the last eight years.

“When we first moved, I travelled back and forth to Melb to shoot, and it killed me.

“We spent two years hunting for the right property.

“We expect the space to be regularly used as a specification hub for architects and designers, given we are the gateway to the coast, and our drawers are lined with every sample of material imaginable.”

Julia says the response has been extremely positive.

“Our motto is to create beautiful, bespoke, one-of-a-kind spaces with one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the personalities of our clients.

“We hope to become a destination store that people will travel to from Melbourne and beyond.”

Julia brought Jessica Bettenay from Resident Avenue on board for the inspiring fit out.

“She is a truly gifted designer … it was a dream collaboration between us, her insights, her team, her trades and experience were invaluable and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

“I have to confess though, this whole chapter was mostly propelled by my husband, who alongside Jess, our designer, has really driven the detail in every aspect of this build.”

Greenhouse Interiors has engaged furniture makers such as Dowel Jones and Molmic to make custom couches and chairs, as well as supporting emerging local furniture makers.

“We have also just had Ken Done join our gang. He has been my art idol since age nine so we are beyond thrilled to exclusively house some of his collection and limited edition prints.”

The store also stocks Healtherly bedheads, bespoke lighting, Kaz Ceramics, wares from Morocco, Bitossi Italian glassware and porcelain, and Alessi sculptures – among many other gorgeous things.

“In essence, it’s a mix of my favourite things, and I am only getting started,” Julia says.

The space also plays host to monthly non-industry events involving everything from food and perfume making to floral arranging, fashion and artists in residence.

Julia also says she could not be more thankful to the brand partners who took the leap of faith to help bring the concept store dream to life.

“It’s an exciting new chapter. In truth, this is only a snippet of the story. You will have to follow us along the journey to see all of the massive plans unfold.”
