DISCOVER creative spaces across the north of Golden Plains Shire at this month’s Hidden Gems open studio event.
To be held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November from 10am until 4pm, the weekend will include new venues located at The Well at Smythesdale, Birchgrove Studio at Smythesdale, Red Echidna Studios at Smythes Creek, and Studio Nessence at Smythes Creek.
Other open studios are Vida Pearson, Fred Ross Furniture and Kate Wise Art at Haddon, Steve Drew Studio at Nintingbool, Cocom Studio at Ross Creek, Rosie Grundell Studio at Scarsdale, and Raintree Art at Cambrian Hill.
The event is self-organised by local artists and makers and aims to foster creativity and community.
Printmaker and mixed media artist Anne Langdon will be showcasing her work at Birchgrove Studio alongside Catriona Sexton, Paul Gerardi and Jeannie King.
Gerardi will be running a Raku demonstration at 2pm on Saturday 8 November.
“It’s a great opportunity to see what people in the community are doing and it’s a lovely warm atmosphere,” Langdon said.
“It just provides another opportunity for locals to explore.”
The addition of new venues, particularly The Well, has allowed artists based further away to showcase their work.
“Glynis Bryden and Lisa Hunter are both from Dereel, but they suffered with the arts trail previously because there wasn’t as many people coming through,” Langdon said.
“This has been a fantastic opportunity for artists outside the normal places where people head.”
