Smart Living Expo marks a decade of sustainable lifestyles

February 19, 2024 BY

THE Smart Living Expo now is in its tenth year and Buninyong Sustainability wants to bring new purpose to the community.

The event aims to unite our local communities, fostering education and motivation among individuals and companies to embrace sustainable practices.

The pace of change in our world is exceeding our expectations, with rapid advancements in technology, increasing requirements for housing and energy, mounting concerns about textile and electrical waste, and the ever-expanding challenges posed by population growth.

Coping with these changes requires a combination of individual efforts, community engagement, and global collaboration.

The concept of the Smart Living Expo focuses on healthy and fulfilled living within a community context.

Buninyong Sustainability is running two events over the weekend to educate and engage the community at our regular Smart Living Expo at Royal Park in Buninyong with the stage one opening of our new community garden beds ready for planting.

The day will be opened by Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, and she’ll be talking on the importance of communities.

Hosting close to 100 stalls covering building, innovation, environment, health with some added Buninyong market stalls throughout.

Programmed educational talks through the day, live music, food trucks Flying Chilies, Giant Springs and more.

Bring the family and complete the Sustainable Seekers hunt learning and exploring the expo and be rewarded with Community Gold.

Learn about the energy savings of heat pumps and go into the raffle to win a Reclaim Heat pump.

Permaculture groups, renovating tips, garden fun and energy assessments this is your point of call for a sustainable future.

There will be a large collection of electric cars on display with owners there ready talk to about how they have changed their lives, charging advice and product experience is integral when choosing your next car.

This year we are excited to also launch our inaugural Friday night community event Back to Buninyong on the 23 February in the beautiful Buninyong Town Hall from 6pm to 9pm with guest speakers Costa from Gardening Australia and Rosemary Aldrich public health doctor from Grampians Health.

There will be live music from jazz folk parlour group Cope Street Parade from Melbourne, live letters, food trucks, film screening, giveaways and just a perfect celebration of community.

These events are being made possible because of the wonderful members of Buninyong Sustainability Group and our supporters and sponsors in the community.

All events are FREE, so take a trip to Buninyong and enjoy the day and maybe you will even become a Sustainable Seeker yourself.

The Smart Living Expo is on at Royal Park in Buninyong on Sunday 25 February from 10am to 3.30pm.
