VOLUNTEER health service providers with St John Ambulance Ballarat are looking to add new members to their ranks with a recruitment session this weekend.

The event will take place on Saturday with the aim of having people put their hand up to assist with people’s health and safety needs during community events and festivals as well as emergencies.

St John Ambulance Victoria’s regional manager for Southwest Region, Sam McColl, said there are many benefits to becoming a volunteer with the organisation.

“There are many great reasons to join,” he said. “I joined almost 10 years ago to give back to the community.

“As part of the recruitment process, members will finish up with advanced first aid, advanced resuscitation, and a bunch of other certificates.

“There’s also being able to go behind the scenes to the major events and venues we attend.”

The local team lend their support at more than 200 events and emergencies each year and have recently been part of occasions like Summer Sundays, Run for a Cause, and concerts at venues like Marvel Stadium.

The information session will run from 10am at the local team’s training centre at 3 Endeavour Way in Alfredton.
