WITH their senior women’s side established two years ago, members of the Lethbridge Cricket Club are looking to maintain the teams with a come and try day this Sunday.

Women’s coordinator Georgia Connors was one of the first players to sign up to the club’s female team back in 2021 and said it’s important to retain the squads.

“The aim is to hopefully get a few women in, and hopefully us girls can get them over the line into joining,” she said.

“We’re looking to maintain our third women’s team which we built last year. We’ve lost a couple players this year, so it’s about filling those gaps again.

“We’re the only club in Golden Plains to have three women’s sides up and running.”

The come and try event will be headed by Ms Connors and well as recently appointed women’s coach Luke Keys followed by a pre-season training session on the same day.

Ms Connors said the club is looking to secure about five new players to fill their established teams.

One of the club’s women’s teams has reached Barwon Women’s Cricket Competition’s grand final for the past three seasons, and a Rosellas will be playing in the league’s A Grade competition this summer.

Ms Connor said the selection is a leap forward for women’s cricket in the region.

“It’s a great opportunity,” she said. “Obviously we’re trying to strive for our junior girls to come through as well.

“Playing the top-quality cricket that’s there for us to play is a great look on the club and an inspiration for the younger girls coming up.

“It’ll be a challenge for us being pushed up like that but I think we’re ready to take it on and see how we go.”
