Council & Daylesford Cinema work together

September 12, 2018 BY

COUNCIL and the Daylesford Cinema are working together to ensure the upcoming school holiday movie program can go ahead. The cinema is planning to show current release films at the Daylesford Town Hall during the school holidays, commencing Friday, 21 September and running through to Sunday, 7 October.

After the holidays the cinema will go back into recess because of bookings at Town Hall, and will re-commence on Friday, 21 December and screen through to Tuesday, 29 January. After the Christmas holidays, the cinema plans to screen every weekend, Friday to Sunday, until the new cinema re-opens in The Rex.

Dates are currently being confirmed. Seating will be in the balcony, so people will enter through the Vincent Street door (disability access will be through laneway on the side).

The movie schedule for September/October will be on the Cinema’s website shortly.

Gina Lyons, Daylesford Community Theatre President said, “We are thrilled to be able to offer films to our community and visitors from the Town Hall. We think the convenience of its central location in Vincent Street will be a big attraction for people.”

“We have confirmed a program of latest release movies with our booking agent and we’re raring to go,” said Ms Lyons.

Evan King, Hepburn Shire Council CEO said, “When we were approached by the Daylesford Community Theatre Committee to use the Town Hall as a temporary cinema, we jumped at the chance to work with them to make it happen. The cinema is a highly valued community asset and we know that people will be delighted to be able to see the latest films locally again.”

“We understand that the delays in the Rex redevelopment have impacted the cinema, so we are very happy to be working with them to use the iconic Town Hall as a temporary cinema until the new cinema re-opens at the Rex,” said Mr King.
