AN intimate evening of live performance is set to be held at Buninyong Uniting Church each month.

Following its debut in November before a hiatus over the new year, the second iteration of the monthly Chamber of Music concert will take place on Sunday 11 February.

Event manager Lisa Cressey said the performances are about activating the church site for the community.

“The Uniting Church is starting to sell off churches around Australia,” she said.

“I was speaking with the local church’s reverend Paul Sanders and he’d been to a conference where the idea was if you don’t reach out to the public and open up the space, you might not have it anymore.

“It’s all about using the space a little more and showcasing the music we have in the region.”

With candlelit ambience and afternoon tea provided, the two-hour bill will feature folk trio Skedaddle, as well as recorder ensemble Buninyong Players, and entertainer Hedley Thomson.

Ms Cressey, who is president of non-profit Buninyong Community Events, has also used the church space for the Buninyong Village Market and said she has other ideas for the site.

“It has fantastic acoustics and it’s just a lovely, nice space with its stained glass. It’s just a great space to have events like this,” she said.

“The concerts are an opportunity for even music groups, schools, and smaller bands to have a place to showcase their music and to show the audience lots of differing genres.”

The Chamber of Music concert will run from 2pm to 4pm at $15 entry.
