THE Communities of Respect and Equality (CoRE) initiative recently celebrated a major milestone, when the Centre for Multicultural Youth in Ballarat became the 100th organization to join the actionfocused alliance.

CoRE is a Grampians-wide regional initiative to prevent violence against women and their children that supports local organisations and businesses to address sexism and discrimination, support gender equality and lead community change.

Supported by Women’s Health Grampians, these 100 organisations, businesses, clubs, networks and groups are working together to change community and workplace attitudes, and promote a culture of respect and safety.

Members are implementing a range of efforts that fit their own organisation and include actions that challenge gender stereotypes, such as supporting both men and women to access flexible work options, improve gender balance and support inclusive and equal policies and practice.

“This milestone is a real reflection of the leadership and commitment in the region to making a safer, fairer community for everyone,” said Acting CEO of Women’s Health Grampians Darlene Henning-Marshall.

“We are particularly thrilled to welcome CMY to the alliance. Their involvement will strengthen the network’s capacity to understand the many intersecting variables that impact on equality and ensure that we are achieving equality for all members of our community”.

At an afternoon tea to celebrate these achievements and welcome the Centre for Multicultural Youth in Ballarat, Team Leader Barry Petrovski said, “We are thrilled to be the 100th member of the CoRE Alliance and look forward to working with Women’s Heath Grampians and CoRE members to promote gender equality and prevent violence against women in the Grampians region.”

The Centre for Multicultural Youth is a not-forprofit organisation based in Victoria, providing specialist knowledge and support to young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
