THREE members of the Ballarat Amateur Radio Group have been installed as life members.

Doug Raper, Craig Cook and Rodger de Valle have a combined total of 130 years as licenced operators, which allows them to transmit worldwide.

BARG has a membership of over 60 people. Various activities include involvement with the Light Car Club – where members supply radio contact for the Begonia Rally and providing radios for the Scouting Association jamboree of the air.

One of the most unusual activities for the BARG was spending the new year’s even in 1999 at the police station in case of system failure due to the Y2K bug. Ultimately, their services we’re required.

The BARG club rooms are located at the Ballarat Airport and a complete radio station is set up for members use.

New members to the club are always welcome and age makes no different, with participants having been as young as 10 successfully completing the training course and subsequent exam.
