School fundraiser flowering well

PARENTS at Woady Yaloak Primary School’s Ross Creek campus have been hard at work for the past few weeks raising funds via an online spring bulb drive.
Launched late last month via bulb fundraiser Tesselaar Fundraising, the campaign was arranged through the school’s parents and friends association.
With sales now closed, group president Anna Paxton said the drive is following up on previous success.
“We first held this drive this exact time last year and it was one of our top fundraisers for last year. We raised over $600. This year we made just under 300,” she said.
“We wanted to do something that wasn’t the typical fundraising people normally do. It’s something tangible and something families would probably do anyway so we thought we’d go with it.”
With 40 per cent of profits to go towards the school, Ms Paxton said the cash will be used to upgrade sporting equipment.
“We’re looking at new soccer goal posts,” she said. “We also like to use the funds to subsidise excursions where we can, given the cost of living, and we like to add more books to the school library each year.
“I think this is something we’ll aim to do next year as well because it’s an easy fundraiser to do and it’s all online.”
Last year’s bulb drive cash went towards the new playground as part of the campus’ refurbished site which opened at the start of the semester.
With a core team of six people, the association’s upcoming fundraising efforts include their winter pie drive as well as hot dog days organised with the help of students.
The Ross Creek campus currently has 144 students.
