Roads closed as flash flooding risk as severe thunderstorms hit Lismore and Northern Rivers
TUNTABLE Creek Road has been closed between Beardown Road and Rose Road after significant rainfall made an existing landslip unstable.
Lismore City Council has shut the road to through traffic and is monitoring conditions.
The closure comes as severe thunderstorms are forecast to drench Lismore and the Northern Rivers this afternoon, with heavy rain likely to trigger flash flooding.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned storms could produce intense rainfall over the next several hours, with Lismore and Ballina among the locations that may be affected.
An easterly moist onshore flow is forcing persistent showers and thunderstorms across the region.
The warning was issued at 1.59pm EDT on Friday 27 February 2026.
The State Emergency Service is urging people to keep clear of creeks and storm drains and not to walk, ride or drive through floodwater.
Residents are advised to seek the highest available refuge if trapped by flash flooding and call 000 if rescue is required.
For emergency help in floods and storms, call the SES on 132 500.
