HAVE you ever wanted to learn how to make your own soap?

Heathcote Community House, together with Ceilidh Meo from the Long Road Olive Co-op, opened bookings for a hot process soap-making workshop last week, only to have all places filled within days.

As a result, they will be holding another session on Sunday 20 September.

The three-hour workshop is suitable for people over the age of 12, and no previous soap-making experience is necessary.

All recipes, materials and tools will be provided.

Community house executive assistant Vicki Forde said making your own soap can save money and increase skin health.

“We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful local facilitator like Ceilidh Meo providing these fabulous workshops for us,” said Forde.

“We firmly promote sustainable, healthy people and environments.

“This type of workshop helps us to showcase how easy it is to switch to locally sourced and grown natural products and importantly building of knowledge of self-sustainability at the same time.

“When you grow your own food and make your own products, you create a mini self-sustaining ecosystem.

“You avoid the petrochemicals and toxic runoff associated with conventional goods, and you entirely skip single-use plastic packaging.”

Workshop tickets are priced at $60 per person, with places limited to eight attendees. All participants go home with a year’s supply of soap (12 bars).
