Coffee, cake and connection for carers

UNPAID carers in Heathcote and the surrounding areas will be treated by Carers Victoria to free coffee and cake next Wednesday.

The event brings carers together in relaxed surroundings for conversation, connection and practical information about services available to them.

At least one in eight Victorians provide support to family members, partners and friends with disabilities, mental health challenges, age-related needs and other care requirements as unpaid carers.

Accessing support in regional communities can be challenging for carers with limited local services and long-distance traveling adding to the pressure.

Carers Victoria aims to bring support closer to home by creating local events where carers can connect, share experiences and learn about available assistance.

Carers Victoria regional carer navigator Abbey Brown said many carers put their own needs last while supporting others.

“Carers consistently tell us they want support that is local, accessible and practical,” Brown said.

“Many are navigating complex service systems, rising costs and significant travel demands while balancing caring responsibilities with work, family and everyday life.

“Events like this create opportunities for carers to connect with others, learn about available supports and realise they don’t have to navigate their caring role alone.”

All unpaid carers in Heathcote and surrounding areas are welcome to attend the brunch, but registration is essential.

The brunch will be held at Fodder Cafe, 74 High Street, Heathcote on Wednesday 29 July from 10am to 11.30am.
