COURT House Crafts secretary Christine Raniolo last week made an impassioned plea to residents to spread the word about the shop’s relocation.

After almost 32 years in the former Heathcote Court House building, the not-for-profit organisation relocated to make way for the Heathcote Civic Precinct redevelopment.

“We need your help,” said Ms Raniolo. “Since our relocation to 170 High St, our volume of customers has greatly declined.

“Many people have lost us and our weekend trade from people out of town is almost non-existent at the moment.

“We ask everyone to please spread the word and hopefully the shop will remain trading.

“It would be very sad if we had to close as the shop has been in the town for almost 33 years and it would mean Heathcotians would have to travel to Bendigo to shop.

“I ask everyone to tell friends and family where we are located now.

“We are just opposite IGA Supermarket and next to Palling Bros. Craft Brewery.

Court House Crafts stocks a range of fabrics, yarn and haberdashery.

“I sincerely thank you on behalf of our volunteers. Let’s get Court House Crafts up and running again.”

Following months of uncertainty, the cooperative was offered the present building at a very reduced rent by Palling Bros. Craft Brewery owner Peter Pichut.

“We are very grateful to Peter,” said Ms Raniolo. “Without his kindness we would not have been able to continue operating.

“As a not-for-profit organisation our rent is a significant expense.

“We also purchase yarns, haberdashery and fabrics, providing a large selection and saving people from having to travel further afield.

“Our range is continually increasing.”

Since Ms Raniolo’s post on Facebook, many locals have offered suggestions and vowed to update all their friends.

“The response has been heartwarming,” said Ms Raniolo. “Clearly so many people care about the shop.

“Hopefully travellers through the town will also get the message and realise we are still open, just in a new location.”

Court House Crafts is open Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm at its new location at 170 High Street, Heathcote.
