KARRA King believes it is a privilege to bring joy to residents at the end stages of their lives.

The leisure and lifestyle assistant has been working at Heathcote Health Aged Care for 14 years.

“I enjoy meeting the clients and their families,” said Ms King. “I love hearing their back stories.

“They are all different and all special.

“Clients become like family and every one of them deserves the best quality of life we can give them.”

Ms King appreciates the support she receives from other staff members at the facility.

Heathcote Health Aged Care resident Judy said she misses Karra King on her days off.

“Everyone works together to give the best to the clients.”

Ms King organises outings for those who are able and daily activities designed to stimulate and entertain.

“I use a lot of themes connected with the seasons and special events like the AFL Grand Final, Halloween and Easter,” she said.

“We have visiting entertainers and every Friday those who are able enjoy walking with our friends from community house.”

Outside of her work, Ms King has been practicing Taekwondo for 20 years and recently achieved a fifth dan on her black belt.

She also enjoys photography and sightseeing.

Pat said Karra is wonderful and truly cares for all the residents at Heathcote Health Aged Care.

Ms King moved to Heathcote with her parents, sister and brother after September 11 when she was in Grade Five.

“I love Heathcote,” she said.

“It’s a small community with lots of friendships and people who check up on each other.

“I love working here and have no plans to leave.

“It’s like my second home.”
