Hooked on wool and friendship

THERE’S no pulling the wool over the eyes of the members of the Wednesday Chatty Community Crafters group – they are too busy knitting and crocheting with it.
The group has been making and donating items to several community organisations.
“We have such fabulous kind and generous support in our community, and one of them is our Wednesday Chatty Community Crafters group,” Heathcote Community House executive officer Vicki Forde said.
“These amazing humans have been making the most gorgeous items to help support so many to keep warm, and to feel loved and supported.
“Beautiful blankets have been shared throughout the RFDS community transport vehicles Victoria-wide, as well as with our local aged care facility.

“Scarves and hats are being distributed through our local St Vinnies branch.
“The group have been creating worry worms, fidgets, roses and so much more, for children and adults alike who may need to know we all care.
“Some fabulous toys, including jelly babies and trauma teddies, have gone to our emergency services to pass on when the younger members of our community need some extra support.
“Precious baby hats, clothes and blankets go to the Sunshine Bendigo group and many families in need.
“Some items have also been sold with the funds raised put into our building fund, to help support our need for more space here at our beautiful mudbrick building.
“We are very grateful to this amazing group.”
Group member Jackie Matthews said they have all become good friends and look forward to their weekly meetings.
“We enjoy the companionship of everyone and love making things to benefit the community,” Matthews said.
“We always have plenty of laughs and welcome new members of all abilities making all types of crafts.
“And wool donations are always appreciated.”
The Chatty Community Crafters group meets every Wednesday at the community house from 10am to 2pm, and donations of wool are always appreciated.
