THE Heathcote International Film Festival is set to expand after a generous Bendigo Bank Community grant.

The $10,500 grant has allowed the committee to purchase a projector, sound system and large screen.

Committee member Duncan McGann said the committee is looking forward to using the new equipment to expand the annual festival.

“We are very grateful that Bendigo Bank recognised the value of the festival to the cultural fabric of Heathcote,” he said.

“We are very keen to build upon last year’s success to make the film festival one that both the business community and the broader community can benefit from and be proud of.

“With this new equipment we will be able to significantly expand the festival. “We are looking to hold events more often, in different venues, and are currently exploring a range of ideas to broaden the festival for patrons of all ages and interests.”

HIFFA is currently accepting submissions and have received some high-quality short films from both Australia and internationally.

“We will also be expanding the festival to include an emerging filmmaker category,” said Mr McGann.

“As was the case last year, we will be holding an informal Friday night screening on 13 September with a gala dinner on Saturday.

“Other events will be added as the planning continues.

“The broader Heathcote community will also benefit from the equipment with events supported by the committee able to be held for fundraising and other purposes.”
