WITH term three school holidays on the horizon, parents might be starting to think of things to do to keep the kids occupied.

Following a popular holiday program last school break, The Discovery Centre has more planetarium and vertical slide sessions for its new program Matter of Life.

The program is essentially a story of how the energy is transformed through matter, said general manager Alissa Van Soest.

“We’re going to start with the big bang, and we’re going to head down to how life was created,” said Ms Van Soest.

“We’ll follow energy from the sun’s rays, into plants, through the food chain, and then what happens afterwards.

“It’s going to be a big topic, but I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The program will incorporate physics, astronomy, and biology, and will feature a new planetarium show The Renewable Universe.

“I think it’s really incredible to learn how energy just doesn’t disappear,” said Ms Van Soest.

“Energy travels through the system, and energy is constantly changing its form as it travels from the sun, to plants, to animals, to us.

“I’m hoping they really come away with this new understanding and this new excitement of this energy that’s constantly around us and constantly travelling through those systems.

“Alice, who is one of our science educators, is also an incredible artist and has created some really awesome props and exhibit pieces that will help people understand it all and follow that journey.”

Matter of Life will run across both weeks of the school holidays 10am to 4pm, starting 16 September, and will be open for the public holiday 29 September.
