THE State Government has updated Used Car Safety Ratings, or UCSR, with the aim of making it easier for Victorians to buy a second-hand car.
The initiative is a partnership between the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC).
The ratings are created using data from 9.5 million vehicles and 2.6 million injuries from police-reported crashes between 1987 and 2023.
“Many of the safest used vehicles are available at affordable prices, ensuring that all Victorians, especially young and first-time drivers, can access vehicles that offer superior protection,” Transport Accident Commission CEO Tracey Slatter said.
The 2008-2016 Ford Falcon FG was the best performing large vehicle, while the top medium pick was a 2017-2023 Toyota Camry, and the Mazda 3 2019-2023 was the best small car.
There were 130 vehicles that received a five-star rating of 561 rated models and 72 were named a safer pick.
The ratings can be found at howsafeisyourcar.com.au.howsafeisyourcar.com.au.
