HEATHCOTE was stung by a seven-wicket loss against North Castlemaine as the Castlemaine District Cricket Association’s A-reserve teams marked round 13 last Saturday.

After being sent in, Heathcote was dismissed for 89 in the 29th over of the showdown.

Leading run-scorers for the Saints were Tim Gleeson, 18; Ben Poulton, 13; and Kyle Seidel, 13.

A superb bowling performance was led by Darren Hinck, 3-12 off six overs; Jamie Allan, 2-21 off eight; and Nicholas Ryan, 2-34 off eight.

There were two run-outs.

After being 1-22, it was opening bat Gavin James and number three John Howorth who teamed up for a 57-run stand to put North Castlemaine in control.

An unbeaten knock of 38 by James included three fours.

Howorth’s stint at the crease was ended on 28 after he had also struck three boundaries.

The target was reached in the 21st over.

Wicket-takers for the Saints were captain Rhys Ashen, 1-19 off 37 deliveries; Ben Poulton, 1-11 off three; and vice-captain Tim Gleeson, 1-17 off four.

Teams have a rest on the Australia Day weekend.

The Saints’ upcoming opponent in the 14th round, Newstead, did plenty of chasing in the field as Taradale reached 6-306 at Cricket Willow.

Jakob Tidyman led Newstead’s attack with 4-28 off six overs.

Newstead scored 8-210 through the play of Chris Elderfield, 51; Charlie Chapman, 48; and captain Kris Bafley, 21.

Heathcote will back on home turf at Barrack Reserve to face the Steaders from 1.30pm on 1 February.

When they met in round five it was Heathcote that scored a four-wicket victory on Newstead’s ground. The Saints scored 6-191 as Daniel Butler, 64 runs, and Tim Gleeson, 46, led the way.

Newstead was bowled out for 189 as Ben Poulton and Nick Malavisi took four and three wickets respectively.
