Juniors cap top seasons
THE rising stars of Heathcote Football Netball Club capped great seasons at a recent awards presentation.
Joint winner of the David Roulston Medal as fairest and best in the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL under-18s footy, Tom Johnson polled 131 votes to win the Saints’ award.
Runner-up was on-baller James Pringle on 123, while best in finals was Ryan Foster, and most consistent was Daniel Butler, 97 votes.
Archer Obst earned the most determined award, Matt Pointer the coach’s award, and most improved went to Sirius Carr.
On the netball court, Heathcote was beaten in the 17 & Under first semi by eventual premiers Mount Pleasant by a goal.
Fairest and best was Telani Bibby, while runner-up was Ava Harris was also presented with the Georgia Edsall-French Memorial award.
Best in finals was Nicole Foster and the coach’s award went to Tahlia Anderson.
Zara Bibby scored 60 votes to be a runaway winner of the 15 7 Under champion player award as Elise Pringle was runner-up on 37 votes.
The coaches award went to Annabel Johnson and most improved was Chelsea Doherty.
The 13-under netball team also advanced to the HDNL first semi.
Bonnie Flynn earned 56 votes to be fairest and best as Emma Wani was runner-up on 33.
Best in finals was Mylee Ayres, most improved honour went to Catherine McCarthy, and Thea Tobin earned the coach’s award.
The under-11s is a non-competitive grade.
Participation medals went to Abbey and Baylee Johnson, Charlotte Burt, Ella Garing, Indie Purchase, Kara Gellatly, Lily Jackson, Mackenzie Marino, Mia Carolan, Nellie Tobin, Olivia Walker, Sara Garing and Tom Harris.
In the under-12 football, Tristan Foster was fairest and best on 122 votes from Jesse Mitchell with 75.
Most consistent and best in finals was Jake Aquilina, most determined went to jack Brooke, with most improved going to Harry Dellar.
The coach’s award was taken by Cailen Ruck, and Josh Day was named best first-year player.
