Red-hot Heathcote take on Magpies
HEATHCOTE’S Division Three team is in top form rolling into this Saturday’s round of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields weekend pennant.
The ladder-leading Saints are on home greens to take on the second-placed Castlemaine from 1.30pm in the round 13 clash.
It’s just two weeks to go until finals begin and Heathcote won its latest hit-out against Serpentine.
The form of the Saints almost matched the heat in a 108-55 result.
Chris Morcom’s rink won 12 of the first 13 ends on the way to a 45-6 victory.
Maurice Lee turned a one-shot deficit after 12 ends to win the last four ends for a 26-16 result.
The Adam Luxford-skipped rink won 19-9.
Bill Gardiner won six of the first seven ends, but Serpentine won the next six and the last four ends for a 24-18 victory.
Heathcote needed to win the division six match at Kangaroo Flat to stay in finals contention where a great match on the Roos’ ground went Flat’s way, 58-55.
Lorraine Speirs and Brian Berger claimed 19-16 and 24-20 victories.
A 22-12 result for the Roos against Denis Kilner was decisive.
The Saints are home this Saturday to play Marong.
In Midweek Pennant action on Monday a 19-shot win at home against Harcourt ensured the Saints avoid relegation.
Heathcote beat it’s fifth-placed opponent, 71-52.
Down by seven after nine ends, the Lorraine Speirs-skipped rink scored seven shots on the 11th.
Speirs rolled on to a 29-21 victory.
Meanwhile, it was a clean sweep for Dot Cutajar and Eileen O’Brien won by six and five shots respectively.
In next Monday’s final round of the regular season, Heathcote plays at Strathfieldsaye.
Social bowls on January 31 was won by Lorraine Speirs and Daniel Fitton, two wins, one draw, 40 points, plus 11 shots.
Runners-up were Richard Edwards and Greg Speirs, two wins, one draw, 37 points, plus 11 shots.
Mixed social bowls is played on Wednesdays from 1pm and pennant practice on Thursday starts at 4pm.
Heathcote will host an invitation fours tournament on Sunday, 3 March.
