Community hits the streets
NUMBERS might have still been below expectations and the participation medals didn’t arrive on time but the 2024 Blue Lake Fun Run, supported by naming rights AAM Timber, has again been hailed a huge success, injecting more than $14,000 back into the community.
The Limestone Coast Domestic Violence Service, the Mount Gambier breast Cancer Awareness Group, the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group, Backstage Inc., Valley Lake Conservation Park and City of Mount Gambier Disadvantaged Youth Scholarship were the recipients of the 2024 Lakes Rotary Club donations.
Ella Howes represented Backstage Incorporated, who received $2000 for the running of the Mount Gambier Eisteddfod, which, with the generous support of the City of Mount Gambier, runs throughout July and August.
A valued member of the dance committee, Ella helps at fundraisers and is a performer herself.
“The eisteddfod brings people from Victoria and South Australia to Mount Gambier to showcase their talents amongst our locals,” Ella said. “Backstage Incorporated are very grateful for the assistance provided by the Lakes Rotary Club.”
Of course, taking on the challenge of the Half Marathon, 10.4km, 6.8km and 3.2km attracts competitors of all ages.
