Long standing mission earns national honour
TENSION Woods College is proud to announce it has been awarded the distinguished Order of Timor, recognising the College’s long-standing commitment to supporting communities in Timor-Leste.
The honour reflects years of dedication from students, staff, families and the wider school community, whose collective efforts have helped foster meaningful partnerships and build lasting connections with Timorese communities.
Teacher and Timor Coordinator Bernadette Fisher said the award is a significant milestone for the College and a testament to the spirit of generosity and service that defines Tenison Woods.
“We are deeply honoured to receive the Order of Timor,” Ms Fisher said. “This recognition belongs to our entire school community, whose generosity, hard work and commitment have made a genuine difference in the lives of others.”
Principal David Mezinec is currently in Timor-Leste with Ms Fisher and a group of Tenison Woods students and was thrilled to be in attendance as the award was presented.
The award was presented following the opening of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart in Eraulo, one of the projects Tenison Woods College has proudly supported through the Bakhita Centre and in partnership with Eddie de Pina.
Through various initiatives, the College has worked collaboratively with partners in Timor-Leste to support education, community development and cultural exchange. These efforts have not only provided valuable support to those in need but have also enriched the learning experiences of Tenison Woods students.
“This is an achievement we proudly share with every member of our community,” Ms Fisher added. “Our connection with Timor-Leste continues to inspire us, and we remain committed to strengthening these relationships into the future.”
The Order of Timor is one of Timor-Leste’s highest national honours, recognising outstanding service and contributions to the people of Timor-Leste.
