Martland takes the win
THE weather gods looked out for the 22 women at the Blue Lake Golf Club playing in the first of four rounds of the short course trophy on Wednesday, July 1, with the predicted heavy rainfall arriving well after the event was completed.
The trophy was sponsored by Grant and Dianne Perryman and this round was a stroke format.
The short course is played with reduced handicaps adjusted by Golflink with a par of 65.
The yellow marker short course has been running for several years and is a popular part of the calendar but can still throw up some challenges as it changes the state of play involving a bit more short iron play for some.
Only one handicap was broken, Division One’s Rosemary Martland took the honours with an excellent scorecard of nett 63 off her reduced handicap of 6 and 69 gross after five pars on the outward nine holes and another five on the inward nine as well as birdies on the 10th and 14th holes.
Second place went to Anita Klem 86/19/67 having splits of 44/42 that Included three pars on the outward and two on the inward nine.
Karen Panagopoulos was third voucher winner signing for 78/10/68 with three pars in her outward 41 strokes and four pars in her inward 37 strokes.
Division Two winner was Trudy Herbert 90/21/69 with pars on 1st, 3rd and 10th holes with splits of 44/46, followed by Lynette Hirth 100/30/70 with pars on 8th and 14th holes in her 49/51 splits.
Third on the podium was Johanna Gogan 98/27/71 scoring a par on the 12th on her splits of 52/46.
Other placegetters were Ronda Edwards nett 69 and Sue Agars nett 71.
The pro-shot on the 5th was won by Ronda Edwards, nearest to the pin 2nd shot winners on 16th were Sue Agars (in hole) and Kristy Janeway (1.26). Chip-in ferrets were scored by Lyn Gill 1st, Carol Downing 8th, Martland 10th, Lynette Hirth 14th, Helen Stratford 14th, Sally Houlihan, Jenny Bowman and Josie Ashby.JUNE 27 RESULTS
The early morning starters for the stableford competition had to contend with foggy conditions then clearing by mid morning to sunshine.
Mandy Bartholomew topped the winners list posting 34 points off her 25 handicap that Included three-point pars on 2nd, 5th, 12th, 14th and 15th holes in her splits of 16/18 followed by Helen Stratford 31 points off her 22 handicap with two three-pointers in her splits of 16/15.
Third was Karen Panagopoulos 29 points off her 20 handicap also with two three-pointers in her splits of 13/16.
Other placegetters were Ronda Edwards 28 and Rosemary Martland 27 c/b.
