Community leader to stand at State election
MILLICENT man and local business owner Mark Braes is Labor’s candidate for the seat of MacKillop for the 2026 State Election.
Mr Braes has previously served as a councillor and Mayor on Wattle Range Council, and worked as a lawyer, family mediator, and conciliation officer with the SA Workers Compensation Tribunal.
“I’m focussed on delivering for and being a strong representative for the community I call home,” Mr Braes said. “I have a track record in delivering for this area, and I am ready and willing to continue that hard work.”
Mr Braes now runs his own mediation business, Braes Mediation Solutions, and resides in Millicent with his wife Lisa and their son Oliver.
An active community member, Mr Braes has volunteered through the local Rotary Club and St Vincent de Paul group.
Local and Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Clare Scriven announced Mr Braes candidacy in the Limestone Coast earlier this month.
“We are excited to announce Mark as the local candidate,” Minister Scriven said. “Mark’s experience in advocating for his community, both on a local government level and as a community representative makes him the right choice for MacKillop.”
Premier Peter Malinaskas also welcomed Mr Braes’ candidacy.
“Locals would know this Government is committed to investing in and supporting the Limestone Coast, as a critical contributor to the State’s economy,” Mr Malinauskas said. “ Mark is local, business-minded and community-focussed – the right kind of person to represent this important community.”
