Festive fun to double as fundraiser
The Salvation Army’s Tim Frost, City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin, community representative Sue Roberts and grandson Elijah, Uniting Care’s Lew Parsons, ac.care’s Trish Sparks and St Vincent de Paul’s John D’Souza are looking forward to dressing up for Christmas in July on Friday, July 24.
LOCAL workplaces, organisations and schools are invited to bring festive cheer to winter by participating in a ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser on Friday 24 July 2026, supporting the Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal and helping raise vital funds for families in need.
Participants across the city are encouraged to embrace the spirit of giving by wearing Christmas colours, jumpers, costumes or accessories, with a $5.00 donation per person contributing directly to the appeal.
City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said the initiative offered a simple and enjoyable way to make a meaningful local impact.
“I encourage our community to get involved and have some fun on Friday 24 July. It will be fantastic to see workplaces, organisations and schools across the city embracing the concept, bringing a splash of Christmas colour to brighten a winter’s day,” Mayor Martin said.
“Christmas in July is an opportunity to come together, build team spirit and support members of our community who need it most.”
“Participants are encouraged to get creative, whether that’s through internal competitions or prizes for the best dressed individuals or teams,” she said.
Funds raised through the Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal are distributed locally through the Christmas Cheer program, delivered by Uniting Care, ac.care, St Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army.
The program provides practical assistance including food hampers, gifts and vouchers to individuals and families experiencing hardship, helping ensure they can experience the joy and dignity of Christmas.
“While dressing up adds a light-hearted element, this initiative highlights the importance of generosity and kindness throughout the year,” Mayor Martin said.
“By supporting the appeal in July, participants are helping ensure assistance is available for local families well ahead of the festive season,” she said.
The Mayor’s Community Christmas Appeal is a registered charitable initiative, with donations tax deductible for individuals and organisations.
