DISTRICT Council of Grant has released its Advocacy Plan 2026, outlining a suite of transformative projects for which Council is seeking funding.
The Plan was endorsed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 February 2026 and solidifies Council’s vision for its priority projects into one document.
Projects detailed in the Plan include:
• Upgrades to the Mount Gambier & District Saleyards,
• Security screening infrastructure at the Mount Gambier Regional Airport,
• Community Wastewater Management Systems serving Donovans Landing, Dry Creek and Reed Bed,
• A Sinkhole Masterplan to protect, manage and activate the district’s sinkholes and karst landscapes, and
• The Limestone Coast Connective Trails Masterplan for a coastal trail corridor linking Coonawarra to Port MacDonnell.
These key focus areas were identified as priorities in Council’s Strategic Plan 2024-2034, informed by elected members and in consultation with stakeholders and the broader community.
“We’re preparing for the future of our region,” said District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston.
“District Council of Grant is primed for growth. The projects outlined in the Advocacy Plan ensure that our economy can thrive and our infrastructure can support whatever comes next. Most importantly, the plan invites funding partners to see our region the way Council does: strategically important, productive and prosperous, with enormous potential for growth.”
The Plan is accompanied by an internal advocacy framework to aid decision making and ensure projects are aligned to Council, state and federal strategies.
Chief Executive Officer Gary Button is pleased with the coordinated and evidence-based advocacy approach that has been developed through this process.
“The plan provides clear evidence of the economic and social benefits of investing in these projects and initiatives,” Mr Button said.
“As we’ve seen with council’s recent success with securing funding for the Saleyards Transformation project, this method shows our funding partners and our community that Council is committed to financial sustainability.”
