Symphony orchestra set to showcase the classics

Experience an unforgettable evening of classical music featuring works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Mozart performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra this Wednesday at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre. Under the expert eye of conductor Carlo Antonioli, guests will experience Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, a romantic piece inspired by the Hebrides Islands, which captures the monumental beauty and natural forces that Mendelssohn experienced whilst visiting. The music mirrors and grandeur of the landscape with sweeping melodies, vivid orchestration, and evocative soundscapes.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor is one of the most iconic works in music history, with the famous ‘da da da duuumm’ opening motif instantly recognisable the world over. The simple themes and rich, complex musical texture and dramatic urgency all add to this landmark piece.

Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto was famously written for a basset clarinet, an instrument that did not exist at the time the piece was composed. The concerto was given to Anton Stadler, a renowned clarinettist at the time who had developed an early version of the basset clarinet. The piece is known for its expressive qualities, and the basset clarinet allowed Mozart to explore the instrument’s full potential.

Performing Arts Centre manager Amanda Hurley said guests attending this performance are going to be treated to a truly enriching and awe-inspiring experience.

“Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Mozart were among the most influential composers of their time, and having the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra return to HPAC and bring their works to life in Hamilton is an honour and not-to-be- missed,” she said.

The show welcomes music lovers of all ages to purchase tickets for the 7.30pm performance from hamiltonpac.com. au or contact the box office.
