A Bulldog through and through

Tough, uncompromising, tenacious, relentless. They are adjectives that encapsulate the 300 game netball career of East Gambier’s Morgan Amy.

The reigning East Gambier A Grade best & fairest has built her reputation on tight checking and a refusal to concede easy possessions to her opponent and she has not just been a critical cog on the court but also done more than her fair share off it.

Morgan started her time at McDonald Park in 2007 in both the 13 & under and 15 & under competition.

She represented the Bulldogs in those age groups until 2011 when she graduated permanently to the 15 & under and 17 & Under, as well as making her A Grade debut, having already racked up a number of senior appearances in the lower grades.

As a junior player at East Gambier, Morgan earned plenty of silverware as part of teams that won the 13 & Under premiership in 2008 and ’09, the 15 & Under flag in 2010 and ’11 and a hard fought overtime grand final victory in 2013 as part of the Bulldogs 17 & Under line-up.

Ironically, it was 2012, when Morgan did not enjoy premiership success, that she achieved some significant personal accolades, taking home the club best & fairest awards for both the A reserve and 17 & Under team.

Those accolades followed on from her 2010 club best & fairest in the 15 & Under age group and runner up best & fairest in 2009 in the 13 & under competition.

Morgan built her reputation as a tough circle defender, thriving on the challenge of taking on the competition’s tall shooters, despite being outsized, and her ability to ready the play, be as effective on the ground and in the air, has made her one of the most respected defenders in the former Western Border Netball Association, now, the Limestone Coast Football Netball League.

She has also taken on the wing defence role and brought that same tight checking and relentless pressure to that role, and she has also spent some time on the attacking wing, where her aerial strength and creative passing are a real asset.

Morgan has also represented Western Border at SA Country Championships and she is co-captain of East’s A Grade team this season, alongside long time defensive partner Bo Creek.

Morgan has coached both junior teams and the A Grade team at East Gambier and has been a member of the committee as well.
