Hawker wins high gun

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly competition on Saturday in adverse conditions, starting out with a heavy downpour followed with light showers, Ssunlight, then some winds and again heavy rain.
Despite the less than ideal conditions, the shooters still obtained some impressive scores.
The opening event was the ‘Shadforth Financial Group 25 Tgt Club Pointscore Championship’.t
This competition was enthusiastically shot as the competitors were after points for the yearly aggregate award, showing off their skills.
Wayne Hawker 74/75 won overall and AA from Dougal Simson 72/75, Steve Zadow 72/75 just edged out Max Medhurst 69/75 to win A, Harry Simson 70/75 won B from Scott Fleming and Mick Little 68/75, Mark Copping 65/75 won C from Rob Marcato 53/75 .
The Peter & Mary Winser 15 Pr Eastern Zone Double Rise Championship event was exceptionally well shot in the appalling conditions.
Don Pratt, with a top score of 26/30, won overall and AA from Gavin Height 22/30, after a shoot off Steve Zadow 43/50 won A from Wayne Hawker 40/50, Matt Robinson 24/30 just won B from Dougal Simson 23/30 and Ken Atkin 22/30 narrowly won C from Peter Winser 21/30.
The ‘Mount Gambier Rural Supplies NSI 40 State Mixed Targets Championship’ was the last event and in overcast damp conditions, Wayne Hawker 88/95 won AA from Gavin Height 120/130.
Matt Robinson 56/60 showed his prowess winning overall and A from Steve Zadow 86/95, Scott Fleming 54/60 won B from Dale Robertson 52/60 and Peter Klieve 50/60 took out C grade from Rob Marcato 38/60.
The South East Autotrade Highgun award was won by Wayne Hawker 154/165.
The AGM followed the competition with Dougal Simson being voted in as the new president and Ken Atkin taking up position as vice president to lead the club to another successful and entertaining year for the members.
The next competition will be on Saturday, August 8.
