While many of us enjoy being upgraded, particularly to a first-class airline ticket or the best seats at the theatre, Torquay local Carole Brinsmead now has the best upgrade of all – one that enriches her life every day.

Carole’s ability to hear her grandchildren talk and keep up with her family and friends’ conversations was being compromised by her hearing loss. “Understanding what my grandchildren are saying is very important to me,” she said. Carole has profound hearing loss in her left ear and even though she already wore a hearing device, she struggled to keep up with group conversations and was never happy with the sound of her own voice.

Then Carole spotted the Australian Hearing centre in Torquay and decided to have her “good” right ear tested.

This decision, unknown to her at the time, would significantly improve her hearing, and quality of life.

At the centre, Carole was offered the opportunity to try one of the new, improved generation of hearing devices that uses advanced technology and boasts a compact, comfortable design.

“I was open to giving it a go after the audiologist explained the new features,” Carole said.

Since Carole upgraded to a new device, she not only feels more balanced but can also hear sounds and speech in her left ear.

“I feel more confident holding conversations when I’m out, particularly in groups of six to eight people.

“Before I couldn’t hear conversations to my left. I also love that the hearing aid is discreet and how intuitive the app is.”

Carole can also now hear traffic on her left side, making each outing safer.

“I can hear bikes and people passing by. I feel much more comfortable and in touch with my surroundings.”
