Community asked to map Lorne’s missing links

LORNE residents, workers and visitors are being asked to help shape the future of walking and cycling in the township as the Surf Coast Shire reviews its active transport network.

The council has launched community consultation to identify where new pathways, safer road crossings and other improvements are needed to better connect community facilities, businesses, tourist attractions and other key destinations.

Feedback will be used to identify priority locations and inform concept plans for future projects.

Councillor Leon Walker said the council wanted to hear from everyone who uses Lorne’s streets.

“Walking and cycling are part of everyday life in Lorne, and we want to hear from the community about where the missing links are and what improvements would make the biggest difference,” Cr Walker said.

“Whether you’re walking to the beach, riding to school or getting around town, your local knowledge will help us understand the challenges people experience and identify opportunities to improve safety and connectivity.”

Lorne has limited pathway and pedestrian crossing options, with several gaps in the network identified through the council’s Safer Cycling Strategy.

The review will explore opportunities for new pathways, safer crossings and local traffic management measures to improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

“The people who use the streets know them best,” Cr Walker said.

“Your feedback will help us identify where improvements are needed most and strengthen future funding applications to deliver the projects that matter most to the community.”

Community members can provide feedback through an online survey and interactive map until 5 August via the Surf Coast Shire website.
